Pregnancy Test

General Information About the Test

A pregnancy test detects the presence of the Beta HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) hormone, which begins to be produced when the embryo attaches to the mother's womb and enters the blood first, and then the urine. Diagnosing pregnancy early is of great importance for the healthy development of the baby, as it allows the expectant mother to promptly initiate changes in her diet, medication use, and lifestyle.

Test Process and Preparation

Practical information about blood and urine pregnancy tests.
Is a blood test or a urine test more reliable?

A blood test (Beta HCG) has a near 100% accuracy rate and can detect pregnancy at the earliest stage (even before a missed period). Pharmacy-bought urine tests are practical, but they only provide reliable results when performed after a missed period.

When should I take the urine test?

To get the most accurate result from home urine tests, you should wait until at least 2-3 days past your expected menstrual period. The first urine upon waking up in the morning is preferred because it is when the hormone is most concentrated.

Is fasting required for a blood test (Beta HCG)?

No. Because hormone levels are not affected by food intake, a pregnancy blood test can be performed at any time of the day, on a full or empty stomach.
