Test Process and Preparation
Hysteroscopy is a closed procedure without incisions or stitches. While diagnostic (office) hysteroscopy can sometimes be performed without anesthesia, therapeutic (operative) hysteroscopy is generally performed under mild general anesthesia (sedation) for patient comfort.
It is most ideal to perform it in the days immediately following the end of menstrual bleeding (usually between the 7th and 11th days), which is the period when the lining of the uterus is at its thinnest and smoothest.
It is a day-case (outpatient) procedure. After resting for a few hours post-procedure, the patient is discharged home on the same day. Mild spotting-type bleeding or cramping is considered normal.
