Holter Monitor

General Information About the Test

A Holter monitor is a procedure where the patient's heart rhythm (Rhythm Holter) or blood pressure (Blood Pressure Holter) is recorded continuously for 24 to 48 hours by a small, portable device while the patient continues their daily life. It is frequently used in cardiology to detect momentary palpitations, fainting spells, rhythm disorders, and hidden high blood pressure elevations that cannot be caught in a short-term ECG taken at the hospital.

Test Process and Preparation

Attaching the Holter monitor and rules the patient should pay attention to in their daily life.
What is the difference between a Rhythm and Blood Pressure Holter?

A rhythm Holter device records the heart's electrical map (ECG) through cables attached to the chest. A blood pressure Holter automatically measures blood pressure at set intervals (e.g., every 30 minutes during the day, every 60 minutes at night) with the help of a cuff attached to the arm.

Can I take a shower while wearing a Holter?

Because the devices are electronic recorders, they must not come into contact with water. Therefore, the patient is forbidden to take a shower or swim as long as the device is worn.

Should I restrict my daily activities?

On the contrary, your doctor wants to see how your heart reacts during a normal day. You can go to work, take a walk, and continue your normal life while protecting the device. Taking note of the times you have complaints makes the doctor's evaluation easier.
