General Information About the Test
Test Process and Preparation
The Pap smear test looks for abnormal changes in cervical cells. The HPV DNA test, however, directly looks for the virus "itself" that causes cancer. The HPV test can catch the risk of cancer long before the cells deteriorate.
Just like the Pap smear test, the sample is taken by touching the cervix with a small brush (swab) during a routine gynecological examination. It is a painless procedure that takes seconds and does not cause bleeding.
Absolutely not. A positive test indicates that you carry the HPV virus in your body. Most HPV infections are cleared by the immune system over time. Advanced examinations like "Colposcopy" are only necessary if high-risk types are present.
