General Information About the Test
Test Process and Preparation
While a fine needle biopsy only extracts "fluid and cells" with a syringe (cytological examination); a core needle biopsy extracts a "tissue block" (histological examination) from the target mass. This reduces the margin of error to near zero.
Because a thick needle is used, the area where the needle will be inserted is strictly numbed beforehand with local anesthesia (numbing with a needle). The patient does not feel pain during the procedure, only a slight pressure and a clicking sound (the spring mechanism of the device).
Yes. In the vast majority of cases, the suspicious area is visualized in real-time on an ultrasound screen to ensure the needle is directed precisely at the target mass, thereby avoiding damage to healthy tissues.
