Hereditary Cancer Panel Test

General Information About the Test

The Hereditary Cancer Panel is a comprehensive genetic blood test that screens an individual's DNA sequence using the most advanced "Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)" technologies to determine if there is a genetic (familial) predisposition to cancer types such as breast, ovarian, large intestine (colon), prostate, and stomach. Dozens of risky mutations, such as BRCA1, BRCA2, and Lynch syndrome genes, are examined all at once.

Test Process and Preparation

Cancer predisposition test and genetic counseling process.
Who should get this panel done?

Individuals who have more than one first-degree relative diagnosed with cancer at a young age (under 50), patients who develop primary tumors in both breasts or in multiple organs, and individuals determined to be in a high-risk group following genetic counseling should have this panel done.

Does a positive result mean I will definitively get cancer?

No. Being a mutation carrier (e.g., BRCA positivity) means that your risk of developing that cancer over your lifetime is much higher compared to the general population. However, this result offers the opportunity to prevent cancer from ever occurring through more frequent follow-ups, early screening programs, and even preventive (prophylactic) surgeries.

How is the test performed?

It is performed with a routine tube of blood taken from the arm, undergoing a sensitive sequencing process in the laboratory that takes weeks. It does not require fasting or a full stomach. The most important step is to receive counseling accompanied by a "Genetic Expert" who will interpret the results.
