Blood Analysis (Blood Test)

General Information About the Test

A blood test is the most basic and common medical examination performed to evaluate overall body health, diagnose diseases before they show symptoms (check-up), and check the functions of organs (kidneys, liver, heart). Dozens of different parameters such as a complete blood count (Hemogram), biochemistry panels, vitamins, hormones, and infection markers can be analyzed in the laboratory with a single blood draw.

Test Process and Preparation

Routine blood tests and rules for giving blood.
Must I be fasting for a blood test?

It depends on the content of the requested test. For blood sugar (glucose), cholesterol, triglycerides, iron, and some hormone tests (thyroid, insulin), a full overnight fast of at least 8-10 hours is required. If only a hemogram (blood count) is to be performed, it does not matter if you are fasting or full.

Do the medications I use affect the test?

Yes. Particularly antibiotics, blood thinners, thyroid medications, and vitamin supplements can alter test results. If you have regular medications that need to be taken on an empty stomach in the morning, be sure to consult your physician about whether to take them before or after giving blood.

When will the results be available?

While routine urgent tests and complete blood counts are generally resulted within 1-2 hours, detailed hormone, vitamin, or culture tests may take until the next day or a few days to be completed.
