Polygraphy (Home Sleep Test)

General Information About the Test

Polygraphy (Home Sleep Test) is a portable and practical sleep evaluation test developed for patients suspected of snoring and stopping breathing during sleep (Sleep Apnea), but who do not want to be hospitalized or do not have the time for it. The device is connected to the patient's chest and finger by a technician at the hospital; the patient goes home with the device and sleeps in their own bed, recording respiratory data in a natural sleep environment.

Test Process and Preparation

Use of the home sleep apnea test and connecting the device.
What is the difference from the test done in the hospital (Polysomnography)?

Polysomnography (hospital test) also measures brain waves (EEG) and leg movements in detail. The home sleep test focuses solely on breathing pauses, oxygen levels, and pulse. It is generally sufficient for the diagnosis of severe or moderate sleep apnea.

Can I do the test on my own at home?

The use of the device is extremely simple. The chest band measures respiratory effort, the clip on the finger (oximeter) measures the oxygen level in the blood, and the small cannula attached to the nose measures airflow. The device records until morning; in the morning, it is turned off and delivered to the hospital.

What should I pay attention to on the night of the test?

To avoid affecting the sleep data, alcohol and sleeping pills (unless the doctor advises otherwise) should not be taken on the night of the test. You should sleep in comfortable clothing and be careful that the device's hoses/cables do not come off during the night.
