General Information About the Test
Test Process and Preparation
Although the electrodes and sensors attached to you may seem strange at first, because the sleep laboratory rooms are designed with hotel-like comfort, the vast majority of patients can fall asleep easily.
In addition to sleep apnea, polysomnography is also mandatory for the definitive diagnosis of Restless Legs Syndrome, Narcolepsy (excessive daytime sleepiness), Sleepwalking, Teeth Grinding (Bruxism), and REM sleep behavior disorders.
On the day of the test, the hair must be washed, clean, and completely dried (no gel/hairspray should be applied). Care should be taken not to sleep during the day, and on the night of the test, beverages that affect sleep patterns, such as tea, coffee, or alcohol, must strictly not be consumed.
Except for pediatric patients or individuals requiring special care, companions are generally not permitted to stay in sleep laboratory rooms. It is essential for the patient to be alone in the room and for silence to be maintained to obtain a high-quality sleep recording.
The sensors and cables are gathered into a special central plug system so the patient can get out of bed when necessary. When you need to use the toilet at night, simply call out to the technician; the technician will unplug a single cable to let you go to the toilet and will restart the recording upon your return.
