Test Process and Preparation
The patient's nose is closed with a special clip. The patient is asked to first take a deep breath through a disposable plastic mouthpiece connected to the device, and then to blow into the device with all their might and uninterruptedly for 6 seconds. The procedure requires exertion.
This test is not a passive procedure like a blood test; it relies entirely on the patient's correct use of the device and their cooperation (compliance). If the patient blows half-heartedly or coughs, the test result may falsely appear as if there is a disease. Therefore, it is essential to follow the technician's instructions completely.
On the day of the test, tight clothing that restricts the chest should not be worn. You should not smoke or perform heavy exercise for 4 hours prior to the test. Additionally, you should consult your doctor about whether to stop asthma/COPD medications.
