The patient lies on a special table and is secured with safety belts, so there is no risk of falling. The table is tilted upwards (60-70 degrees) so the head is elevated. By causing blood to pool in the legs in this position, the body's blood pressure and pulse reflexes against fainting are instantly monitored via ECG.
The purpose of the test is precisely to trigger that feeling of fainting (or actual fainting) in a controlled environment to find the cause. At the moment of fainting, the table is immediately brought to a flat position, and the patient recovers within seconds. A specialist physician is by your side throughout the procedure.
Because nausea may occur during the procedure, albeit rarely, you are asked to be fasting and without water (even water should not be drunk) for at least 4 hours prior to the test. The procedure takes an average of 30-45 minutes.
