Test Process and Preparation
The patient is given a safe, tasteless liquid (or capsule) containing a very low dose of carbon isotope to drink. If the Helicobacter Pylori bacterium is present in the stomach, the bacteria break down this liquid and convert it into a special gas. After about 10-15 minutes, the patient is asked to blow into a special bag like blowing up a balloon. The gas in the bag is analyzed in the device, confirming the presence of the microbe.
It replaces endoscopy with over 95% accuracy solely for finding the presence of the microbe (bacterium). However, if the patient has bleeding, difficulty swallowing, or unexplained weight loss, an endoscopy is mandatory to see the inside of the stomach and take a biopsy.
This is the most important rule. For the test to be accurate, no "Antibiotics" must have been used for at least 4 weeks prior to the test, and "Stomach Protector" (Lansor, Nexium, Pantpas, etc.) medications must have been completely stopped for at least 2 weeks. You must be completely fasting on the morning of the test.
